• Now that the compliance deadline for the MBTA Communities Act is July 2025, community members disagreed on whether there should be a Special Town Meeting in February to vote on the Base Plan or to wait until the Town Meeting in May. The MBTA Communities Law continued to be front and center for two town boards following the January 14th referendum vote that negated the passage of Needham’s ‘Neighborhood Plan’ zoning by-law. The Select Board and Planning Board both had work to do to establish a new timeline in accordance to state law. While the actions taken by the two bodies were agreed upon, not all members were on board with the plan, and how it was put forth. Town residents also took the opportunity to let their voices be heard. Municipal Producer Yuxiao Yuan has the recap.
