Boys Volleyball Sweeps Pair of Home Games to Start Season

• The Rockets knocked off St. John’s Prep and New Bedford.

The Spring Sports Season is here and that means the Needham High School Boys Volleyball team is back on the court and expectations are always high. In their first two games, the Rockets are perfect with two sweeps, first on Thursday, March 27th, at home against St. John’s Prep, then again on Friday at the A Gym against New Bedford. Needham won the three sets vs. the Whalers 25-20, 25-18 and 25-12.

In the first Spring Broadcast of the season for The Needham Channel, the Rockets went back and forth with New Bedford in the first set, only pulling away down the stretch. The same thing happened early in the second set until Needham went up 14-8. But the Whalers stormed back to make it close until the Rockets pulled away again, finishing the set with their biggest lead of the game at that point.

But set three was all Needham, as the Rockets jumped in front early, taking a 16-6 lead and never looking back. At 2-0, Needham will have the weekend off before heading back to action Tuesday, April 1st at home against Natick in their first Bay State Conference matchup of the season.

You can next see them on The Needham Channel on Tuesday, April 8th at 4pm against rival Newton North. The Rockets and Tigers have split the last two Division state titles, with Needham winning their third straight crown in 2023 and New North defeating the Rockets in 2024, ending Needham’s three year title streak.
