• With multiple housing initiatives and the need for a concrete vision of the town’s future, the Needham Housing Coalition has been doing more than advocating for change. They have been exploring the issues in hopes of spreading good information.
The town of Needham is changing. That’s not unusual–all towns change over time–but it feels as if Needham is growing in leaps and bounds, especially when it comes to the development of real estate. There are many different forms that this growth can take, and many different players with different visions of what that change should be. One group that is wrestling with that big picture is the Needham Housing Coalition, a grassroots advocacy group that formed in the wake of the state’s MBTA Communities Act. Seeking to diversify the types of housing available in Needham, they have partnered with the Citizens’ Housing & Planning Association (CHAPA) to hold informational sessions for the town, and act as a sounding board for solving the challenges associated with developing housing opportunities. Municipal Producer Yuxiao Yuan catches up with them to talk about the organization, its mission, and their vision for the future.
