• The Needham Public Schools administration decided to remove the accelerated math pathway after the results of a 3-year study. But some students would like to have access to more challenging math classes. Earlier this year, Needham High School 10th graders Lulu Wang and Alexander Gurchenkov presented a petition to the School Committee, advocating for the reinstatement of the accelerated math pathway that has been unavailable to Middle and High School students since 2020. Despite their growing movement, with over 500 students and parents endorsing their online petition, the decision to discontinue the pathway was based on a comprehensive study. Consequently, students seeking advanced math experiences may need to explore alternative options.
