• The fall season may be a period of harvest and abundance, but many still find it a challenge getting enough nutritious food to eat. When Governor Healy signed into law the state budget last month, Massachusetts adopted a universal free school meals program. An important step toward food equity, this program is one of many available to help fight hunger from the Federal level to local efforts. High food prices and lack of access to nutritious food is a problem which faces every community, and every demographic that lives within it. Navigating the available options and qualification factors can be another challenge on its own, especially for those who do not do a lot online. A group of dedicated professionals are ready to help connect residents with Needham food resources. We spoke with the social workers at the Center for the Heights about SNAP and how it augments other programs in town.
