Town Meeting members addressed articles relating to snow removal, household waste disposal, and other general by-law topics.
The weather may be unusually warm for May, but town leaders were thinking about the harsh weather of winter at this year’s town meeting. At issue was the removal of snow and ice from the sidewalks in the downtown area. Currently the responsibility of the businesses operating in Needham, the town sought to redefine the bylaw governing snow removal, to make it apply more uniformly and add more bite to the penalties faced by businesses who don’t clean their sidewalks. They also talked about the dumping of household trash in public waste barrels, a practice leading to overflowing receptacles and unsanitary situations. Yuxiao Yuan summarizes the action.
