This week, Needham Channel Sports continued to follow three Rocket teams in their postseason journeys.
The Boys Basketball team followed their overtime first round victory over Plymouth North with a 59-46 win at home over Bay State Conference rival Newton North in the Division 1 South Quarterfinals on Friday, February 28th. (**You can see highlights in the video above**) The fourth seeded Rockets would fall just two days later, on Sunday March 1st, 73-52 in the Section Semis against top seeded Mansfield.
Girls Basketball followed up their first round win over Attleboro with a 57-47 victory over Walpole at home in the Section Quarterfinal Round. The #2 seeded Rockets then fought off a tough challenge from #6 Newton North in the semis, winning 47-45. (**Highlights of this game are also in the video posted above**) The win advanced Needham to their second straight Section Final at Taunton High School, where they will meet #1 seed Bridgewater-Raynham Saturday, March 7th at 5pm. This game is a rematch of last year’s Section Semi Round, when the Rockets knocked off B-R on their home court.
Finally, Girls Hockey advanced to the First Round of the Division 1 Tournament thanks to their big overtime win over St. Peter-Marian last week, setting the #11 seeded Rockets up for a showdown with #6 Arlington Monday night at Ryan Arena in Watertown. Needham unfortunately fell short with a 2-0 loss.
You can see every playoff game airing throughout the week on our Community, Education and HD Channels, with the Girls Basketball Section Final game to debut Monday night at 7pm on our HD and Community Channels.
